The ChronoTrack System

ChronoTrack Systems is a transponder timing company that has developed a cost-effective timing system for athletic events including road races, cycling and multisports.  ChronoTrack has developed the single-use ‘D Tag’, an all-weather design that attaches to the shoe.  In the fall of 2009, ChronoTrack announced the next generation in UHF RFID tag timing: the ‘B Tag’, which stays attached to the race bib.  ChronoTrack also offers a disposable Tri-Tag which attaches to either a vinyl or neoprene band.  ChronoTrack, in concert with its strategic partner, Impinj Inc. has designed custom UHF RFID controllers and antennas that specifically read D-Tags, B-Tags and Tri-Tags in a racing environment.  The ChronoTrack System has become the timing hardware of choice for events such as the New York City Marathon, Bank of America Chicago Marathon, Lilac Bloomsday Run, and NCAA Cross-Country Championships thanks to its accuracy, simplicity for participants and functionality for race timers.

The D Tag

The single use D Tag is best used for cycling events but is also commonly used for running events. For cycling events the D Tag can be zap strapped around the front fork or headset and is accurate at high speeds. For running events it is looped around the laces of the shoe (as shown). The D tag is distributed adhered to the race bib and comes with attachment instructions which makes for a simple race package pickup. It is also disposable or recyclable which eliminates the need for finish line volunteers and the fee associated with lost tags. The tags can also be customized for marketing needs.

The B Tag

The single use B Tag is best used for running events and has also been used for cross- country ski and snowshoe races. It is the latest innovation from Chronotrack Systems and is the easiest to use. The B Tag stays attached to the race bib eliminating the chance of user error associated with the D Tag and other chips, which attach to the shoe.

The Tri Tag

The Tri Tag is, as you could assume, the timing tag used for multisport events. It is a hard plastic sled that attaches to either a medical bracelet or a neoprene band, which is then wrapped around the athlete’s ankle. It can be worn under the wetsuit for open water swims and will still have high accuracy reads at the timing lines.
